inward voices, outward struggles
immersive music of gender resistance - voices from México

This artistic research explores the potential of a Hybrid Audio Diffusion System (HADS) in a series of four electroacoustic compositions collectively titled Inward Voices, Outward Struggles: Immersive Music of Gendered Dissonance – Voices from Mexico.

The HADS is a combined monitoring system built on three key elements:
binaural playback through open-back headphones (providing an egocentric, head-fixed spatial frame of reference),
Ambisonic diffusion via a speaker array (creating an allocentric, room-fixed sound field),
and the integration of live acoustic sound sources that exist in the natural physical space.

These compositions engage with feminist discourse, exploring themes of disembodiment, memory, identity, and resistance through sound as a means of expressing lived experiences of gendered dissonance in Mexico.

This research examines both the creative potential of the HADS and the artistic framework that guides its use. It explores the artistic and technical implications of 3D audio techniques and hybrid spatialization, demonstrating how these approaches expand the creative possibilities for immersive, narrative-driven electroacoustic compositions and soundscapes.
